Calculate degrees within numpy.ndarray

I have the following surface

import numpy as np


surface = np.zeros((10, 10))
surface[5, 5] = 1

This looks as follows:

 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 1. 0. 0. 0. 0.]
 [0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.]

I want to calculate the degrees in x- and y-direction. So, the desired output for the x-direction should be

degrees_x = np.degrees(np.arctan(grad_x))

However, this results n

How is the desired output obtained?

>Solution :

gradient returns 0.5 and -0.5 which are the derivatives aka slopes. So use grad_x * 90 to get degrees.
